CBD Uses

Cannabidiol (CBD) is now widely used for treating a variety of diseases. This is a compound that is derived from cannabis or hemp plant, however, it does not produce any intoxicating effect that is usually associated with these plants. CBD products will be free of THC, which is the psychoactive element in cannabis. Therefore, it won’t result in any mind-altering effects or addiction. Hence, it is considered to be relatively safe.

As CBD will not induce “high’, it is usually used for children too. Many people give medicines that are infused with CBD for treating some diseases that are commonly found in kids. However, many people are still concerned about the use of this substance because of safety reasons, as there is no scientific proof for the real effect of CBD in children. Read along to find out the possibilities of giving CBD for your child.

CBD Uses for Children

Pure CBD oil is used for the treatment of several conditions in children, however, the only condition for which an FDA-approved CBD product is available is epilepsy.

Epilepsy

CBD is found to be effective for treating seizures associated with epilepsy in children. The FDA-approved medication known as Epidiolex is used for controlling seizures in children who are suffering from Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, which are rare forms of epilepsy. This medication is proved to be effective for reducing the frequency of seizures than other medicines that are usually prescribed.

However, Epidiolex is a very carefully created medicine. Therefore, the effects of this medicine may not be available with ordinary CBD oil or any other CBD products.

Even though this medicine is effective, it can also have some side effects. The common side effects associated with Epidiolex includes:

  • Infections
  • Diarrhea
  • Rash
  • Reduced appetite
  • Elevated liver enzymes
  • Feeling lethargic and sleepy
  • Weakness

Autism

Some studies conducted in children with autism for finding the effectiveness of CBD showed that it can be helpful to reduce some of the autism symptoms. It can be useful to control restlessness, seizures, and rage attacks, etc. in children that are suffering from this condition. The side effects that are often associated with the treatment of this disease with CBD include lack of appetite, sleepiness, and reflux.

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)

Even though there is no scientific evidence for proving the effectiveness of CBD for this disease, some parents claim that this compound helped to reduce the symptoms of ADHD in their children. However, you will have to use it with caution, as there is no authentic proof to support this claim.
